I’m working on a pretty detailed and scholarly article on Vanity Sizing. In honor of this, I’m giving away one copy of Size 2 for Life, written by Ashley Marriot and Marc L. Paulsen. Size 2 for Life is a pretty gnarly weight loss book! It also goes into the issue of vanity sizing a bit. Definitely an intriguing read.

I think the most frustrating thing about vanity sizing in today’s world is how it affects online ordering. I love the convenience of shopping online. Browse, add to shopping cart, check out, stalk UPS driver, try on items, love them. In a perfect world, everything I order would fit properly. But they don’t. This means I have to order everything in a 0, 2 or 4 if I shop online. This way, I can try all the sizes because I can never know what will work. Then, I have to go to the store and return the items that didn’t fit. It’s frustrating to not have universal sizing across all the brands.
I love that you are giving this book away. I hope I win it!

What is the most frustrating for me is shopping for bottoms. My waist is a size 4 and my hips and butt are a size 6. There are only 2 companies that cater to women that aren’t plank shaped. I have such a hard time buying jeans. I go into a store, try on 10-15 pairs and go home with nothing. I wish there was an in between size or different sizing chart entirely for women with curves so that we don’t have to alter all of our pants!
I’d love to read this book. I’ve been trying to lose those last 10 pounds for over a year…
The problem I have with vanity sizing is that it keeps people unhealthy. Poor eating habits and behavior thrive on vanity sizing. I like that I’m a petite person and essentially a size 2 at most stores. But it’s the stores that tell me I’m a double zero where I have trouble. I’m not fooled and no one else should be.
Sizing definitely gets very aggravating at times, especially if I’m ordering online. And I’m not just talking about different labels and designers, but even within the same label, sizing isn’t always consistent. The other day, I was trying on a Theory pencil skirt in size 2 , and it was too big. But I tried on a pair of Theory size 2 black cigarette pants, and they were way too small. I couldn’t even button them up. I’m pretty confused as to what size I actually am; I’m basically a different one in each store.
